Chapter 2 & 3

EDC

Understanding chapters two and three requires the understatement of the philosophy of education. The current problems with education, and the upside to education all start with the philosophy of education. The teaching of Socrates is one of the teaching methods and its purpose is solely to constantly question to extend the truth. Which is suppose to show the difference between factual things and things we believe in. using questioning to see between reasoning and evidence, is a great method to use in my eyes. I believe its a helpful method, that will allow us to further our education in the right way. There are also many other methods such as, trivium and quadrivium, which describes and acknowledge sever overarching liberal arts. As for chapter 3, the current problems in education, I'm overwhelmed with thoughts. Is there a specific way to teach? Or what is the correct way to teach for that matter. Should we learn in unity or in stratify when it comes to learning. As you can see both chapters are very informing, and I learning many new things.

Narrative of an experience with diversity in your own Educational life.

Throughout my life i've experienced many things, one being diversity. Diversity is the state of being diverse, or variety. Growing up, i attended a high school by the name "West Milford High." West Milford was considered to be a predominantly white town, and was the home of the KKK (ku klux klan). While attending the school, I've had numerous encounters with diversity. i feel as though diversity can a difficult thing at times, simply because your sometimes looked at as "Different". While attending school i was always out numbered in ratio, for example while in class i would be the only black kid. Which sometimes made me feel different. I also believe that with diversity comes negativity. For example when i was in school, i would always be asked stereotypical questions like "Do black people receive tans or tan lines." which made me feel timid towards everyone, causing me to feel left out. I felt like i didn't belong amongst the other kids, simply because i was considered to be "Different".

Philosophy

After reading chapter four I've come to the realization that philosophy is used in teaching. I also have had the privilege to have taken a philosophy class that has risen my level of knowledge. So knowing a little bit about philosophy really helped me understand way more then i could have. The understatement of philosophy helps you understand that there are many ways behind teaching. It isn't something that many people think about, but it is truly something special. The thing i found to be most interesting to me would be, idealism. The idea of idealism is being about being able to almost think outside the box. Or even knowing that there is much to learn about something more then it is for us to physically see. the idea of idealism and teaching is key and go hand and hand. This will allow the students to expand their minds.

Chapter 5

In chapter five I've come to the realization that there are two different educational philosophies that I agree with. Students centered and teacher centered, both have three philosophies that make up there existence. Student Centered philosophy has three main points, which are progressivism, humanism, and constructivism. Progressivism is an "An educational theory that emphasizes that ideas should be tested by experimentation and that learning is rooted in questions developed by learners." Which means that teachers should experiment with different teaching lessons and styles of teaching. This will enable students to learn better and decipher what teaching style they like better. Humanism is "an outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human rather than divine or supernatural matters" which means an educational philosophy that is concernerd with enhancing the innate goodness of the individual. Constructivism is the development of hands on activity based teaching and learning. As for teachers centered philosophy there is philosophy, essentialism, behaviorism, and positivism. All these traits are considered to be very important.

Chapater 2

In my lifetime, ive come across many experiences. Some similar to other schools and some that may not differ. Through out my life, i've been given the opportunity to attend more then one school. In fact I've never gotten the opportunity to return to a school. Not because of any behavioral issues, but because i didn't feel it was the school for me. Where as Guadet middle school school is similar in some ways as it was when i was in school. the kids a=get along well just like my middle school. They also have minorities just like it was when i was in middle school, but there are also alot of things that can be very different in Gaudget then it was in my middle school. Gaudget would be considered predominantly white, With the exception of a few Blacks and Asians. Which makes it difficult for the Blacks and Asians, simply because there are looked at as if they are different. which makes it difficult for them to attend school. Also one thing is the child about rate is very high in Guadget. Where as in my middle school or town we aren't nearly as high as Guadget and we are considered to be in the city.
